I’ve been designing, building, maintaining, troubleshooting, looking after and marketing websites for almost 20 years now. Enough is enough, it’s time for me to move on and take the next logical step…
Why I’m becoming a UX Designer
- I feel like I’ve reached the boundaries of working alone doing standard websites
- “Everything is awesome when you’re part of a team” – I’m getting bored of working alone and want to be a part of something bigger
- I’m no longer challenged by my current work
- I’m already do a lot of UX Design work without having thought about it
- UX Design really sparks my interest because it goes way beyond the subjective approach to the web and instead uses a measurable user centred approach thats brings in real results
- I already have a degree in Industrial Design which has a lot of cross over with UX Design, it’s feels good to be going back to my design roots
- Traditional web design is now in it’s last days
- I already have a high level UX Design mentor
- I could go on but I’ll save you the pain
How I’m becoming a UX Designer
- I’ve joined the community over at UX Mastery and am reading their amazing book “Getting started in UX”
- I’ve joined Ballina Toastmasters so I’ll be more effective as a communicator – which is the apparently the No.1 role of the UX Designer
- I’ve got an old University friend as a mentor
- I’m changing the way I do my work and transitioning into using the UX Design approach
- I’m gaining experience and building up my portfolio by re-opening the UX-Files…
Re-opening the UX-Files
Ok I know it’s silly and I apologise for the pun but there you go. I’m following the UX Design method to build a platform that enables people to submit ‘UX Files’ with the aim of:
- Learning about UX Design, gaining experience and have something UXy in my portfolio
- To make the web a better place in terms of how we all experience it
Without further ado I shall get on with the project, if anyone if keen to join then hola!
